emojig, at puzzledby.com · Last updated 6 September 2026

The short version. emojig has no accounts and never asks you for personal information. Your puzzle progress, your record, and your settings stay on your own device. Like any web page, your browser temporarily sends your IP address to our web host simply to fetch the game files. If you say yes to analytics, the game sends Google three counts about how the round went, and Google’s script records standard diagnostic visit data. Say no and that script is never fetched, so no analytics tracking runs and no analytics cookies are set.

What stays on your device

The game keeps four items in your browser’s local storage to remember your state. The game code does not transmit any of this data to our servers or to third parties.

Storage Key What it holds
emojig:v1:progress:… A part-finished board: piece positions, orientation, move count, clock time, hints taken, pieces moved again, last saved timestamp, and whether it was solved.
emojig:v1:stats Your record: puzzles played and solved, current and longest streak, solve times grouped into broad bands, and days completed.
emojig:v1:theme Your display preference: light, dark, or follow system.
emojig:v1:consent Your answer to the analytics question, saved so you are not asked on every visit. Dismissing without answering saves nothing.

Any script executing on a page technically shares access to that page’s local storage; this is standard browser behaviour rather than a property of this game. The only value derived from these keys that is ever transmitted to Google is the coarse completion band carried by daily_start, described below; no other contents of this storage are passed on. Because third-party code cannot be audited directly, Google’s script is not loaded at all unless you actively opt in.

Web hosting and server logs

When your browser loads emojig, our hosting provider automatically processes standard network connection details (such as your IP address and browser User-Agent) purely to transmit the game files securely and reliably. These transient server logs are handled separately from gameplay and are not used to profile visitors.

What the game sends to Google — only if you agree

If you accept analytics, the game transmits three lightweight events:

Every event carries the label emojig because one Analytics property serves multiple games on puzzledby.com. None of these events record which pieces you moved, your board layout, hints used, or abandoned rounds.

Pressing Share simply passes pre-formatted text to your device’s native share sheet or clipboard. Where you send or paste that text is entirely up to you; none of it routes through our servers.

What Google collects on its own

Once Google Analytics runs, Google’s standard script collects typical site telemetry, including:

Google acts as our data processor and may process this telemetry in the United States and other jurisdictions under standard contractual terms. Google Analytics data retention is configured to 14 months. For further detail, refer to Google’s data privacy documentation and how Google handles partner site data.

Cookies

emojig sets no cookies of its own.

When analytics is accepted, Google Analytics sets cookies starting with _ga to distinguish returning browser sessions. If you decline or ignore the consent prompt, Google’s script is blocked and no cookies are placed.

Because these cookies are set across puzzledby.com, a _ga cookie may already reside in your browser if you previously consented on another game hosted on this domain. Answering the prompt inside emojig controls whether tracking runs while playing emojig; turning analytics off inside this game actively deletes the _ga cookies for the domain.

Turning analytics off

Open the How to Play dialog via the ? button and toggle Analytics to off. This immediately halts event transmission, purges the _ga cookies for this domain, and ensures the script is not fetched on subsequent visits. Gameplay remains fully functional regardless of your choice.

The legal basis

Your rights

Under applicable privacy frameworks (including the GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, and CCPA/CPRA), you have rights regarding access, deletion, objection, and complaints to your local data protection authority.

Because we hold no user accounts, names, or contact records, we cannot identify individual users or look up your records (in line with GDPR Article 11). If you submit a request, we will facilitate it with Google where technically feasible. The most direct way to exercise your rights is to turn analytics off in settings and clear puzzledby.com site storage in your browser settings.

Children’s privacy

emojig is a general-audience puzzle game and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable). Analytics are turned off by default unless affirmative consent is provided. If a device is primarily used by a child, keep analytics toggled off.
